Delon Wright as per this article here with the Washington Post, will sign with the Miami Heat. The signing will happen after he is bought out of his existing contract with the Washington Wizards. Wright will be an off-ball threat, able to organize an offense and a disrupt on defense. In the aftermath of the injury to Terry Rozier, this kind of player is sorely needed. With all the ball handlers on the Heat (Herro, Butler, Adebayo, Rozier, Jovic), the offense has bogged down for scoring.
Wright fact #3 — He gets the offense organized.
Look at this article here from SI.com and “Inside the Wizards.” Delon Wright achieved 1,500 assists earlier in the year. In this article here from wizardofawes.com, Delon Wright had a great season with the Wizards last year and a net rating of +3.5 (as opposed to -1.5 without.) Wright will be a younger version of Kyle Lowry without the Championship pedigree. In 2023, he also shot 60.4% from the field and was good at getting offensive rebounds.
Wright fact #2 — He defends.
Look at this article here from theRinger.com in 2018. Rozier and Wright were up and coming point guards essentially good at everything–“organizing the offense, scoring, defending.” Now the Heat have both guards. This article on SI.com here highlights Wright reaching 600 steals. Wright has missed 53 games in the last two seasons because of injury, but the Heat coaches can help.
Wright fact #1 — His idol is Wade, his brother is Dorrell.
Dorrell Wright played for the Miami Heat out of high school. Dwayne Wade was his mentor. He gave his son the middle name, “Dwayne,” out of his love and respect for the man. Delon loved the Heat since he was a teenager. Look at this article here from the Toronto Star in 2018 that shows how Dwayne was a role model for Delon. The Wizards are rebuilding and looking to develop their younger players. Look at this piece here from Brandon Nguyen on our site in 2022 about their vicious cycle of “development.” Wright belongs on a contender.
