The 2024 Michigan football season is just a few months away. Frankly, as far away as it seems, it will be here before we know it.
Michigan football has undergone a ton of changes since winning the 2023 national championship. The Wolverines have a new head coach, they will also have a new offensive coordinator, a new defensive coordinator, a new special teams coordinator, a new strength coach, and a new quarterback.
Yet, the cupboard isn’t bare. Kirk Campbell, the new OC was the quarterbacks coach last season and has played a key role in building the offense the past two seasons, plus Sherrone Moore is still going to be part of everything as the head coach.
Still, it’s hard to know exactly how it will go. The defense should be elite and it’s hard to see Michigan not being able to run the ball, although if teams are able to stack with the box without consequences, it can make life difficult on the quarterback.
But, Michigan football was ranked in the top 10 by ESPN in their post-spring power rankings and according to Jesse Simonton of On3.com and his Big Ten power rankings, the Wolverines should be a viable contender for the Big Ten title again, especially after some landing some reinforcements for the secondary out of the transfer portal.
Michigan football ranked third in the post-spring power rankings behind No. 1 Ohio State and Oregon, which was No. 2. Here’s what Simonton wrote about the Wolverines:
Brandon Lane is a name that popped up this weekend as a potential Michigan football target in the transfer portal. It was reported by multiple outlets that Lane was going to visit the Wolverines. Pete Nakos of On3.com reported the visit as did 247 Sports.
However, Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider reported on Sunday that Lane wasn’t a target for the Wolverines. There was talk of him visiting Ann Arbor but not on a recruiting visit.
