PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t done interviewing for their offensive staff. After the hire of Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator, the team is set to meet with three more candidates for assistant roles. The Steelers are set to meet with Los Angeles Chargers passing game specialist Tom Arth, Tennessee Titans quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Charles London and New York Jets wide receivers coach Zach Azzani, according to league sources. They are also expected to interview candidates
Arth entered the NFL ranks in 2022 with the Chargers. Prior to Los Angeles, he was the head coach at Akron (2019-2021), Chattanooga (2017-2018) and John Carroll (2013-2016). London worked with Smith in Atlanta as the Falcons quarterbacks coach in 2021 and 2022. He was with the Chicago Bears as an offensive quality control coach from 2007 to 2009 before becoming the Tennessee Titans offensive assistant (2011), Penn State running backs coach (2012-2013), Houston Texans running backs coach (2014-2017) and Bears running backs coach (2018-2020). He spent the 2023 season as the Titans quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Azzani is the only candidate without NFL passing game coordinator experience, but he has plenty at the college level. He’s worked in the pros as a wide receivers coach for the Bears (2017), Denver Broncos (2018-2022) and Jets in 2023.
He was a passing game coordinator in the NCAA with Florida in 2010 and Tennessee from 2015 to 2016. He was also the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky in 2011 and the assistant head coach at Central Michigan from 2007 to 2009. At his year-end press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin said that he expected changes to be made to the team’s coaching staff. It’s unknown if any other addition would remove a coach in the current role or if a hire would take on a separate offensive assistant role.
