Reports: Steelers Mike Tomlin Never Wanted Tyler Boyd…

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have been named a landing spot for former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd all offseason. But with no deal in place, a team insider is letting it be known that, maybe, there wasn’t as much interest as reported.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac said during his weekly chat that he’s not too sure there was any interest from the Steelers in signing Boyd. This comes after multiple reports that they were in conversations with each other, but then that the chances he signs were fading.

“I don’t know if they were really alive,” Dulac writes.

The Steelers have added three wide receivers to their roster this offseason with the signigns of Quez Watkins, Van Jefferson and Cordarrelle Patterson. While they may not have a No. 2 behind George Pickens, and don’t know what the expectations are of Calvin Austin, they likely aren’t looking for more options to be their No. 3.

“I think the Steelers view any of these current wide receiver free agents as number threes. … I just don’t think they want to pay $8-9 million a year for a guy who’s going to be a number three,” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo said on 93.7 The Fan.

Expect the Steelers to pursue a wideout in the NFL Draft, but it appears much less likely a deal for Boyd gets done this offseason.

Tyler Boyd is still a free agent and with the Baltimore Ravens needing more of a receiver threat on offense, could the franchise make a move for the former Bengals star?
