Michigan football staff member Denard Robinson was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, first reported by Angelique Changelis of The Detroit News.
In a statement provided to The Michigan Daily, Ann Arbor Police Department spokesperson Chris Page confirmed that Robinson was involved in a single-vehicle crash at 3:05 a.m. Monday in Ann Arbor. Page also stated that his charges are pending toxicology results.
“Denard Robinson, 33, was arrested for OWI after being involved in a single vehicle crash at E. Eisenhower Parkway and S. State on 4/15/24 at approximately 3:05am,” Page said. “Charges are pending toxicology results.”
Robsinson is now the second Michigan staff member to be arrested for an OWI this offseason. On March 16, newly hired defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested and resigned from his position a few days later. It is unclear at this time what the implications will be for Robinson in light of this event.
A former star quarterback for the Wolverines, Robinson is a well-known figure in Michigan football. He played for the Wolverines from 2009 to 2012 and was an All-American. In 2012, he set the record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season. He returned to Michigan in 2022 as an assistant director of player personnel.
Michigan Athletics did not immediately respond to The Michigan Daily’s request for comment.
