After a disastrous start last season, where he suffered a season-ending injury just four snaps into his debut, Rodgers is determined not to let history repeat itself. Having moved from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets last offseason, Rodgers was set on propelling the Jets into the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. Unfortunately, his Achilles tear during the opener against the Bills cut his ambitions short.
Despite ongoing speculation throughout 2023 about his return, by the time Rodgers was nearing fitness, the Jets’ season had already crumbled, with Zach Wilson failing to impress once more. This year presents a fresh opportunity against the 49ers, who were runners-up in Super Bowl LVIII. Rodgers, originally from California and a lifelong 49ers fan, still harbors some bitterness from 2005 when the 49ers passed him over in the draft, leading to his slide down the order.
“Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn’t draft me,” Rodgers famously quipped. He went on to establish an illustrious career with the Packers, securing four league MVP titles, a Super Bowl MVP, and a championship win in the 2010 season.
The New York Jets have bolstered their roster following the 2024 NFL Draft – left tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu. He was brought in on a four-year rookie deal worth $20.5 million and is expected to provide much-needed support for the veteran quarterback.
Following his draft, Fashanu had quite the story to share with The U. S. Sun: “The night I got drafted Aaron Rodgers sent me a text,” he said. “He congratulated me, told me how happy he was for me and that he’s excited to get to work with me.”
Fashanu also mentioned warm welcome messages from teammates: “Morgan Moses sent me a text and I met Alijah Vera-Tucker for the first time and they’ve been great. For around a week it felt like I was living in a dream but now it’s definitely sunk in that I’m an NFL player for the Jets.”

Rodgers couldn’t hide his excitement about working with the gifted Penn State prospect. “I know they [the Jets’ front office] really loved Olu. I loved what Joe [Douglas] did, moving back and getting a couple more picks,” Rodgers praised. “He didn’t give up a sack I don’t think his entire college career which is saying a lot.”
Rodgers offered some comforting words for the rookie tackle: “He’s [Fashanu] not going to need to jump in right away [into the starting lineup] at tackle for sure. We’ll see if we work him in at guard but I think he is going to have a long career in the league.”
Lastly, Rodgers shared his bright outlook for Fashanu’s career: “Much longer than I’m going to be in New Jersey so excited for him and excited to welcome him to the team. It’s a great O-Line room. Very well coached. A lot of great personalities we added.”
