The legendary Vols quarterback got a text back Monday morning from the Tennessee baseballcoach. Vitello expressed how many tough decisions lay ahead in the national title game against Texas A&M.
Manning reached back to his playing days at Tennessee, pulling a quote from World War II general George S. Patton that former Vols offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe used to tell him: Make a decision and do it like hell.
That just means you make a decision and you go all in and you don’t look back,” Manning said. “Tony made a lot of big-time decisions tonight. He has done that all season. We are national champions. How do you beat that?”
Manning was on hand to see the Vols win the national title Monday at Charles Schwab Field. Tennessee beat Texas A&M 6-5 to clinch the program’s first national championship and UT’s first in a team sport since women’s track and field won a title in 2009.
