This has been obvious for a while now, but the Red Sox will not have any starters on the AL All-Star team, as no Red Sox players finished in the top two of the first fan voting round (there are now multiple rounds of fan voting; it’s a whole thing). (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)
This will mark the second year in a row in which now Sox players made the starting lineup. The Sox did have two starters back in 2021, with one of them being shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Xander is currently on the IL, but he’ll return to Boston this weekend with the San Diego Padres, and he’s looking forward to it. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
God damn, Xander had one hell of a Red Sox career. (Tim Crowley, NESN)
The other dude who started the 2021 All-Star Game was Rafael Devers. He’ll still likely make this year’s team as a reserve, particularly in light of the fact that some opposing pitchers view him as one of the smartest hitters in the game. (Julian McWilliams, Boston Globe)
Unfortunately, the early-season rib injury prevented Triston Casas from making a run at his first All-Star Game nod. But Casas has finally taken some light swings this week, though he’s not yet ready to face live pitching. (Julian McWilliams, Boston Globe)
