Tony Vitello, a University of Missouri graduate who has been Head Coach of Tennessee Volunteers since June 7, 2017. Tennessee Volunteers baseball team since the 7th of June the 7th of June, 2017. Under his direction the Volunteers have seen a return in their performance, turning from underperformers to one of the top teams within college sports.
Since taking over the reigns, Vitello has been instrumental in leading his team of Volunteers through the three College World Series appearances in the past four seasons – a feat that was unmatched in the history of the club since their last appearance in 2005. His strategic thinking and recruiting skills have helped revive the team which has made the team a formidable competitor for the NCAA.
How Has the Team Performed Under His Leadership?
The 2024 season was especially impressive for the Volunteers which earned the team the highest player for the College World Series (CWS). This is a testament to their impressive overall performance which is mostly due to Vitello’s direction. Prior to the time of Vitello before his, the Volunteers had the best performance in the CWS was in the second place finish in 1951.
