Shericka Jackson, the world silver medalist in the 100-meter dash, announced yesterday that she would not compete in the 100-meters for the Olympic games. Jackson’s primary focus for Paris will be her specialty event, the 200-meter dash.
When asked about her choice, she expressed that it was about making the best decision for her body.
“The decision is just to protect my body,” Jackson said in an interview. “As I’ve said for the last three years, I’ve been competing in both events. It’s a combination of both, just focusing on one event and what happened in Hungary.”
Jackson cramped up at the end of her 200-meter race at a meet in Hungary last month. Not too long after, she announced that she was okay and no major injury came from it.
Although Jackson will be missed from the 100-meter dash competition, fans are even more excited to see her compete in the 200-meter dash. She is the reigning world champion and, most importantly, the second-fastest woman of all time in the event. Only Florence Griffith-Joyner is ahead of her.
