During an event for FanaticsFest this weekend, Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards came together to answer some questions about their Olympic experience. After being asked about his connection to Edwards, Kevin Durant opened up about his dynamic with the young shooting guard.
Kevin Durant: “Man, I call him the baby GOAT you know what I mean?”
Anthony Edwards: “It’s been dope. I had a great experience, especially being alongside him [Durant]. I was on his hip the entire trip.
Even at 35 years old, Kevin Durant is one of the NBA’s premier athletes and his fans continue to grow in number. Among his latest group of supporters is young baller Anthony Edwards, who had a lot of good things to say about the basketball legend.
Edwards is one of the rising stars of the game and he’s still in the act of making a name for himself in the NBA. This summer, he got the chance to learn from the best during his stint with Team USA at the Paris Olympic games. Alongside veterans like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, and Devin Booker, he was able to grow and elevate his own game to an entirely new level.
Primarily, Edwards (23) was spending time with his childhood idol, Kevin Durant. As his favorite player growing up, Durant is the GOAT of basketball for Anthony Edwards and he studied his game for countless hours trying to make it to the NBA.
While Durant is taller, lankier, and several years older than Edwards, the young Timberwolves star is making it his priority to soak up and absorb as much knowledge as he can from the 2x champion. It remains to be seen which skills will translate over but, at the very least, they’ve established a good relationship with each other after spending weeks at the Olympics together.
Now that the tournament is over and the summer is winding down, both Edwards and Durant will begin preparations for the upcoming NBA season, where they are both expected to play a major role in the standings. In Minnesota, the Timberwolves are very much on the come-up right now after making a run to the Western Conference Finals.
Anthony Edwards beat Durant and the Suns en route to a historic campaign, but his dreams were cut short in the West Finals against Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks. Edwards was excellent in the series and answered the call as a true superstar should.
The next test for Edwards will come as soon as next season. Now that the Timberwolves are on the map, they will no longer have the element of surprise to give them an edge in the West. That means Edwards will have to do more than he ever has before if he wants his team to take another step up in the West.
While he still has so much to prove, Edwards must be doing something right for him to get so much recognition and praise from people across the league. Now all he has to do is validate it by taking the Timberwolves to places they’ve never been before.
