Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese found herself celebrating some of Caitlin Clark’s success following the Indiana Fever’s 84-79 victory against the Atlanta Dream on Monday night. Reese’s well-timed post featured her dancing and holding up a “W.” It went up right after the score went final at State Farm Arena. Reese had reason to celebrate.
Thanks to Clark and the Fever’s victory, Chicago (11-18) remained one game ahead of Atlanta (10-19) in the standings and in the final playoff spot. Reese’s video garnered over 200,000 views just hours after being posted and drew an interesting reaction from fans. “She happy Indiana won,” a fan wrote. “Angel sneaky I luv it.” Others weren’t as big fans of Reese’s work, citing the Sky’s recent struggles.
Chicago has lost three in a row and seven of its last ten. “Tweeting this while being 3-7 in the last 10 is wild,” another fan wrote. Another chimed in: “This must be from at least a week and a half ago? No reason to be throwing up the W if you aren’t winning, right?” Reese and Clark have a well-known rivalry, so it surprised some when they saw her celebrating the win. “She was rooting for the ATL so bad but then remembered her team needed ATL to lose,” a fan wrote. “It was a win-win situation. I’m sure her hate for Clark would’ve made her happier had IND lost even though it’d make things more difficult for the Sky.”
While the former LSU star has contributed to the ongoing tension, she insists there’s no personal animosity her and Clark. “I don’t think people realize it’s not personal,” Reese said in March. “Once we get out between those lines, if I see you walking down the street, it’s like, ‘Hey, girl, what’s up? Let’s hang out.’ I think people just take it like we hate each other. Me and Caitlin Clark don’t hate each other. I want everybody to understand that.” Reese and the Sky return on the court on Wednesday against the 7-22 Washington Mystics. They’ll look to ride some of the positive momentum Clark and Co. gifted them.
