Angel Reese recently announced she’s launching a new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” The podcast will officially drop its first episode on September 5, 2024, right before the WNBA playoffs this season. On Wednesday, ahead of the Chicago Sky game against the Washington Mystics, Reese was asked why she decided to start a new podcast show.
The rookie forward made it extremely clear that she’s focused on building her brand as a businesswoman, according to Andy Diederich of The Back Sports Page in Chicago. From the sounds of it, Reese aims to capitalize on her popularity in the WNBA. “Just continue to grow my business as a businesswoman… Being able to know that I’m more than an athlete and that’s just to continue what I love to do.” It’s a rather smart decision for the star rookie to launch a podcast considering how much attention she’s garnered since her days at LSU.

It’s a true business opportunity for someone who already has a following in sports and social media. Additionally, professional athletes have used podcasts to create a nice side hustle and business. For example, Travis and Jason Kelce just signed a $100 million deal with Amazon. So, there are real opportunities available. Especially for someone like Reese. After having a wildly successful college career where she led the LSU’s women’s basketball team to its first ever national championship. She entered the 2024 WNBA Draft and was selected No. 7 overall by the Sky. Reese has had a solid rookie season, as she’s transitioned nicely to the professional level. Many believe she’s in the mix for the Rookie of the Year award alongside Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark.
So far this season, Reese is averaging 13.5 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She can certainly improve upon her efficiency in scoring though, as Reese is shooting just 38.7 percent from the floor. But she can certainly improve upon that as her career continues. She’s played an integral role in the Sky’s season this year, as her efforts have placed Chicago in the mix for the postseason.
The Sky must continue playing at a high level though, as they could easily lose their eighth placed ranking in the WNBA standings if they go on a losing streak. With that said, Reese will likely continue to improve her game while simultaneously building her brand through her new podcast. “Unapologetically Angel” drops on September 5.
