Boston, MA – August 25, 2024
American sprinter Gabby Thomas made a remarkable return to the track on Saturday, winning the 200m dash at the Diamond League meet in Boston. Thomas, who had been sidelined with a hamstring injury since June, clocked a new personal best of 21.77 seconds, the fastest time in the world this year.
Thomas’s victory marked her first competition since the US Championships, where she suffered the injury. “I’m feeling stronger than ever,” Thomas said in a post-race interview. “My training has been going great, and I’m excited to take on the best in the world.”
Thomas’s win sets her up as a top contender for the World Championships in Budapest next month. “I’m focused on bringing home gold,” Thomas said. “I’ve worked too hard to let this opportunity slip away.”
Thomas’s comeback has been remarkable, considering the severity of her injury. “Gabby’s determination and resilience are inspiring,” said her coach, Randall Miyazaki. “She’s always had the talent, but now she’s got the mental toughness to match.”
With her sights set on Budapest, Thomas is ready to take on the world’s top sprinters. “I’m not intimidated,” Thomas said. “I’m ready to make my mark.”
