Iowa Coach’s Description of Caitlin Clark’s Biggest Strength Speaks Volumes
New Hawkeyes leader Jan Jensen identified what the program will miss most in the post-Caitlin Clark era.
Caitlin Clark’s omission from the Olympics is still a story. Obviously it was a topic of conversation when the roster for the USA women’s basketball team was announced, but it was also brought up by Mike Tirico during NBC’s coverage of the games from Paris. Following a win by the men’s team over Serbia, Tirico asked South Carolina coach Dawn Staley about Clark’s absence. Staley, a former USA basketball coach, was a member of the selection committee for the squad.
Dawn admitted that things might be different if the choice was made today. “As a committee member you are charged with putting together the best team of players. The best talent. Caitlin is just a rookie in the WNBA. Wasn’t playing bad but wasn’t playing like she is playing now. If we had to do it all over the again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team. Because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people. Shooting the ball extremely well. I mean she is an elite passer. She’s just got a great basketball IQ. And she’s a little more seasoned.”
