BYU football coach Kalani Sitake remained composed but candid when addressing the controversial ending of his team’s matchup against Arizona State. The game, which ended in a narrow defeat for BYU, sparked heated debate over several officiating decisions in the final moments. Sitake, known for his calm demeanor, acknowledged the emotional toll of the game but refrained from directly criticizing the officials. “There were definitely moments we felt didn’t go our way,” Sitake said in his postgame press conference. “But as a coach, I’ve always told my players to control what we can control. That’s what we’ll focus on moving forward.”

Sitake’s comments reflected his frustration while maintaining his usual diplomatic tone. Many BYU fans and analysts pointed to a controversial call—whether it was a questionable pass interference penalty or a disputed spot of the ball—that ultimately swung the momentum in favor of Arizona State. Sitake, however, emphasized accountability. “We had opportunities to close out the game earlier, and we didn’t capitalize. That’s on us as a team.”

The coach also expressed pride in his players’ resilience, noting their ability to compete at a high level despite the challenges. “We’ll learn from this and get better,” Sitake said. “This program has always been about perseverance, and this moment won’t define us.”
