On Monday, Brian Kelly told the media that LSU plans on bringing in what could be the biggest transfer class he’s brought to LSU. The Tigers clearly have lacked some of the top end talent we’ve seen in years past which is likely why LSU will use the portal a ton. The Tigers will also lose a massive group to the NFL Draft, Graduation, and the transfer portal.
On Thursday, LSU kicked off its push for a massive transfer class when it extended its first scholarship offer to a transfer portal target as Slade Nagle offered transfer tight end Zach Atkins.
The Northwest Missouri State transfer has received a ton of Power Five attention and offers as he’ll make the jump from Division II to Division I. This season, Atkins has caught 30 passes for 360 yards, and three touchdowns. Atkins is a converted Wide Receiver at 6 foot 5, 245 pounds which makes him the size of LSU’s current tight ends.
Atkins can become a more polished player under the LSU Strength and Conditioning program and the LSU coaches. As a player, Zach Atkins can give you help as an inline blocker while his wide receiver background makes him a solid threat in the passing game.
LSU going out to offer Atkins could mean a few things for the outlook at the position in the 2025 season. For starters, LSU could be looking for a tight end after Mac Markway transferred away right before the season. It could also mean that LSU is pursuing a tight end as Mike Tyler has been predicted to sign with South Carolina. The other piece could be that LSU is expecting Mason Taylor to enter the NFL Draft as he’s one of the top tight ends on everyone’s draft boards.
We’ll see over the month of December how active LSU is in the transfer portal, which players the Tigers target, and how successful LSU is in its transfer push.
