The college football transfer portal is set to open on Monday, Dec. 9. Players across the country are expected to test the open market, and one Penn State offensive weapon is getting ahead of the curve. Tight end Jerry Cross, a former four-star recruit, plans to enter the portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Monday.

Cross is no longer listed on the Nittany Lions’ online roster.

In two seasons at Penn State, Cross appeared in just seven total games and did not tally a reception. He played just 19 snaps across two games in 2024, serving as the team’s No. 5 tight end behind Tyler Warren, Khalil Dinkins, Luke Reynolds and Andrew Rappleyea.

With Dinkins, Reynolds and Rappleyea all expected to return next season, Cross’ opportunity for increased playing time was slim. The Nittany Lions are also set to welcome four-star tight end Matt Henderson on Wednesday’s National Signing Day.
