There’s a chance that Oklahoma State has a new head football coach for the 2025 season.
According to Brett McMurphy, Oklahoma State’s Board of Regents is meeting on Friday to discuss Gundy’s future after the program finished the season with a 3-9 record and lost all nine Big 12 conference games.
It would be a big move if Oklahoma State parted ways with Gundy since he had 18 straight seasons with a winning record from 2006-23. It’s the ninth longest at one school in college football history.

If the school were to fire Gundy, it would owe him $25,359,375, per the USA TODAY Network. It’s a massive buyout so the Cowboys have to make a big decision now that their offseason is underway.

Nobody saw these struggles coming since the Cowboys were a top preseason conference title pick and had some good talent returning. They looked brutal in a lot of their losses and it’s unacceptable for their program.
It’s a year after the Cowboys got to the Big 12 Championship Game before they lost to the Texas Longhorns.
Fans have clamored for the school to move on but until a decision is made, he’s still the head coach of the Cowboys.
Gundy has been the head coach for the last 20 years, compiling a 169-88 record. He’s compiled 10+ wins in eight of his 20 seasons at the helm.
We’ll see if he remains the head coach after the Board of Regents meet on Friday.
