As Florida State (2-10, 1-7 ACC) was putting together the touches on a historically awful season on the field, head coach Mike Norvell began making changes to his coaching staff.
On Sunday, November 10, a statement was released announcing the firings of receivers coach Ron Dugans, offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
“I appreciate the work these three men have provided over the last five years with me at Florida State,” Norvell said. “They are all great men with families who also have poured into our program. We had many great moments together here, and I have never doubted their passion for our players and for Florida State. Unfortunately, we have not upheld the Florida State standard with our results on the field this season. I did not make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to elevate our program back to where we all desire it to be.”
Florida State has so far hired three coaches to its staff — offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton (still to be officially announced) — with longtime defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins retaining his associate head coach title but transitioning to an off-field role and interim defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Randy Shannon set to depart the program.
Update, December 5: Interim defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Randy Shannon will not be returning to the program, per reports from Noles247 and Warchant:
Shannon joined the on-field coaching staff at Florida State prior to the 2022 season after spending 2021 as an analyst for Mike Norvell, replacing the Virginia Tech-bound Chris Marve.
