South Carolina ended the 2024 regular season as arguably the hottest team in all of college football, and will look to cap off the impressive end to the season against Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31.
The Gamecocks figure to be a very popular pick to make the CFP in 2025 as they could be bringing back a majority of their best players back. They are also doing very well in the transfer portal, and secured a commitment from former Alabama and Florida State LB Shawn Murphy.
Murphy was a big-time prospect when he signed with Alabama, as he was the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia in the 2022 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was also the No. 12 ranked LB and the 142nd ranked player in the entire class.
He was in Tuscaloosa for 2 seasons, but wasn’t able to see extended playing time. He finished his Alabama career with 5 tackles. He transferred to Florida State last season, and finished with 13 tackles. He did that in only 4 games though, as he was injured and missed most of the season.
He currently has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining, but he could possibly have 3 years remaining if he applies for a medical redshirt.
