Former Boston College assistant coach Anthony Goins, who has a tenured career of coaching success, joined Mike White’s staff as an assistant coach in May.

The Bulldogs have seen many new faces join staff since the hiring of White in 2022. Goins joins after serving in a similar role for Boston College over the past three seasons.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Georgia basketball,” Goins said. “Coach White and his staff have done an unbelievable job building the Georgia program the past two years. I could feel the energy and momentum the moment I got on campus. I’m extremely appreciative of Coach White for giving me the opportunity. Coach Grant, the staff and everyone around Boston College have been unbelievable the past three years, but I can’t wait to get to work in Athens!”

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Goins attended Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. After high school, Goins attended St. Johns and served as a practice player for the school’s men’s basketball program and helped out with women’s basketball practices. Goins later graduated from St John’s in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.

Goins, whose resume is built on improving basketball programs, spent the last three years serving as an assistant coach on Earl Grant’s staff at Boston College. During his time there, the Eagles saw an improved record each year that Goins was on staff. Most recently, Goins helped lead the Eagles to a 20-16 record and a bid to the NIT during the 2023-2024 season.

Prior to his stint at Boston College, Goins spent two seasons working with Clemson under head coach Brad Brownell. He helped lead the Tigers to a 16-8 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

Before his time at Clemson, Groins spent 2 seasons on staff with Quinnipiac. During the 2018-2019 season, he helped oversee the program’s first winning season in five years while also helping the team earn its fifth-ever postseason berth with a bid to the Collegeinsider.comInvitational Tournament (CIT). Groins also helped develop three ALL-MAAC guards, including First Team ALL-MAAC award winner Cameron Young.

Goins also boasted three successful seasons on the Yale coaching staff under head coach James Jones from 2014-2017. During his first season with the team, the Bulldogs finished 22-10 overall and earned their first Ivy League Title since 2002. During the 2015-2016 season, Yale improved to 23-7 overall, setting school records for most wins in a season (23), best home record (12-0) and best Ivy League record that season (13-1).

That year the Bulldogs also won the Ivy League Championship and earned the school’s first NCAA tournament bid in 54 years. No. 12 seed Yale then went on to upset No. 5 seed Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Goins began his collegiate coaching career at Dartmouth in 2013, helping the Big Green secure their highest win total in 15 years in the 2013-2014 season. Before Dartmouth, Goins served as an assistant coach for Salisbury Prep School’s Boys Varsity Team for three years and compiled a combined record of 64-18.

Now, Goins joins a Georgia team coming off a semi-final appearance in the NIT tournament and a group looking to make a run towards the NCAA tournament.
