The Oklahoma Sooners have a tradition like no other, especially when it comes to football. They are a school that everyone wants to play for at some point or time. And, that is no different for one of their new players, and transfer wide receiver Keontez Lewis.
But, Keontez Lewis, who played at Southern Illinois, has a family connection that may be forgotten about a bit.
Lewis’ family ties to Oklahoma
C.J. Coldon, the maybe forgotten cousin of Lewis, left a notable mark during his brief stint with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2022, following his transfer from Wyoming. Hailing from Belleville, Illinois, he brought a wealth of experience from his time as a starter with the Cowboys to Norman. Despite joining late and missing spring practices, Coldon adapted well to the Oklahoma defensive system under coach Brent Venables, demonstrating his capability to learn quickly.
During the season, Coldon’s presence was increasingly felt, especially towards the end of the campaign. He featured in 12 games, securing a starting role in the final four. His standout contribution was leading the team with four interceptions, which ranked him 22nd in the nation.
His defensive stats also boasted 43 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and he was tied for the most pass breakups on the team with six. Highlights included a personal best of 12 tackles in a game against West Virginia and an impressive one-handed interception against Kansas that drew significant praise.
