If college football has taught anyone anything over the last few years, it’s that nothing is ever guaranteed until it’s a reality. Players can seem like a lock to commit to a certain school, and then right as the figurative time expires another school makes the late push to bring someone on. With the addition of NIL and immediate eligibility transfers in this new era of college football, anything appears to be possible at times.
After previously declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft after spending two seasons as the star for the Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia’s star quarterback Carson Beck has decided to instead enter his name into the transfer portal. It was just last offseason that we saw a similar situation like this with a quarterback that might not have heard what he wanted from NFL scouts, and decided to return to college and became a Heisman finalist. This might just be a case of deja vu here, as Beck might just follow down the same that projected first-overall pick Cam Ward did about a year ago.
Supplemented by a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Miami Hurricanes and Mario Cristobal are viewed as the favorites to land Beck. Not only does this make sense given Miami’s need for a quarterback after Ward’s departure and Emory Williams’ underwhelming Pop-Tarts Bowl performance, but Beck has some ties already to the university.
Beck’s girlfriend and current Miami women’s basketball player, Hanna Cavinder, is currently playing out her final season of eligibility with the Hurricanes after taking a year of absence from basketball alongside her sister Haley. It definitely wouldn’t be the first time a player has transferred to a school to follow a love interest, and this one could prove to be beneficial for Miami in 2025.
Why Miami makes too much sense for Georgia’s Carson Beck in transfer portal
Beck is currently coming off a season where he threw for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions but injuries kept him from playing in Georgia’s Sugar Bowl matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. If Cristobal and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson can turn around Beck like they did Ward, Miami will remain a serious threat in the ACC.
