Tiger Woods made his TMRW Golf League debut on Tuesday as his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, took on Los Angeles Golf Club.
TGL is a combination of an indoor golf simulation (for drives and approaches) on a monstrous screen with traditional golf for the short games within the SoFi Center facility. Woods and Rory McIlroy co-found the league, which began play this year.
In short, teams of three play over 15 holes. The first nine holes are “triples,” in which the teams of three play in an alternate shot format. The final six holes are “singles,” in which each team member takes two holes apiece. Each hole won is worth a point, but teams can throw a “hammer” to add another point to a hole’s value.
On this day, Woods’ team lost 12-1 to Los Angeles. Jupiter consisted of Woods, Kevin Kisner and Max Homa, and they fell to Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.
Still, SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was rocking on Tuesday. Fans loved watching Woods, who was introduced to Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” naturally.
It didn’t go great from there. Woods had a few tough shots, including one in the water that got a laugh from his son, Charlie Woods. Although it almost seemed like the simulator was a touch off during the day, especially given how much Woods missed this approach.
