FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The Texas track and field program won events at the Arkansas Invitational for its second indoor meet of the season.
Senior Kelsey Daniel won the men’s long jump on his last jump to move to No. 2 on the UT All-Time performer list with at 8.03m (26-4.25). It’s the fourth-best jump in Texas history behind Marquise Goodwin’s top-three jumps and broke a 21-year old meet record of 7.87m.
Junior Solomon Washington was second with a jump of 7.85m (25-9.25). Sophomore Brennen McHenry was seventh with a jump of 7.18m (23-6.75).
The women were led by Aaliyah Foster’s third-place finish with a jump of 6.21m (20-4.50) and Tabea Eitel was fourth at 5.99m (19-8). Foster’s mark moved her to No. 10 on the all-time list.
Sophomore Micheal Pinones won the men’s shot put with his sixth round throw of 18.09m (59-4.25). It was an indoor personal best throw for Pinones who led the Longhorns in the first field event of the meet. Freshman Brandon Schirck made his collegiate debut with a runner-up finish at 16.85m (55-3.50).
On the women’s side, sophomore Nina Ndubuisi’s first-round throw of 17.27m (56-8) won was the winning mark followed by senior Chrystal Herpin’s last round throw of 16.84m (55-3).
Senior Sam Hurley won the men’s pole vault clearing 5.25m (17-2.75), while freshman Sam Abati was second with a 5.15m (16-10.75) clearance and Connor Boenig was third clearing 4.85m (15-11)
In the women’s pole vault, sophomore Sophia Kowalski finished fourth with an indoor PB of 4.05m (13-3.5), while junior Isabella Coscetti was fifth after clearing 3.90m (12-9.50).
Texas multis Brock Lewis and Meagan Humphries each competed in multiple events. Lewis finished sixth clearing 4.76m (15-7) in pole vault, jumped 6.70m (21-11.75) and ran the 60m hurdles in 8.38 seconds. Humphries was fifth in the hurdles in 8.99 and jumped 5.73m (18-9.75) in long jump.
On the track, the Longhorns swept the 300-meter dash after Ramiah Elliott finished in 37.28 and Logan Popelka for the men won in 32.87. In the men’s 400-meter, Chris Brinkley Jr. finished as the top collegiate finisher in second with a time of 47.65.
The men’s 4×400 relay of Chris Brinkley Jr., John Rutledge, Elijah Mosley and Popelka combined to win with a time of 3:08.45 after a last ditch effort from Popelka on the anchor leg.
