Basketball
Florida State men’s basketball was completely dominated on the glass by the Cal Golden Bears last night, seeing a tight game slip away as the Seminoles suffered another devastating defeat and blow to their NCAA Tournament hopes:
The game started and ended with what Cal did on the offensive glass. Almost all of their offense came from offensive rebounds as they pounded FSU for 24 offensive rebounds. It became mind-numbing how easy it was for Cal to crash the boards, turning tonight into one of the most frustrating watches of the year. Ham never made any adjustments in the second half, and the same issues persisted, leading to a Seminole defeat.
All of FSU’s losses follow the same pattern. Tonight, two bad stretches of play, the 13-0 run in the first half and the 12-2 run in the second, did the Noles in, while poor outside shooting and perimeter defense did not allow FSU to get out of the hole. Another hallmark came through multiple times: their inability to take advantage of momentum. Whenever Hamilton’s team took the lead or regained a foothold, they gave up offensive rebounds, turned the ball over, or missed a bunny that would stack positive possessions. The Noles deserved to lose today and cannot figure out how to play consistent basketball.
