Last month, LSU football quarterback Colin Hurley was involved in a car accident on LSU’s campus. When Hurley was found, he was unresponsive but breathing. Hurley was transported to the hospital and declared stable later that day.
On Wednesday, LSU coach Brian Kelly provided an update on Hurley when speaking with the media.
“I’ve been there to see him on multiple occasions,” Kelly said, “He’s back in Jacksonville. I talked to his dad yesterday and it’s really positive. There’s a recovery process there for him.”
Kelly said he hopes Hurley will be able to rejoin LSU later, but there is no timetable for his return. Hurley is just 17 years old, so LSU decided to leave updates up to the family.
Hurley signed with LSU in 2024 as a four-star recruit. He was originally a member of the 2025 class before reclassifying. He took a redshirt in 2024.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly updates status of Colin Hurley after car accident
In early January, LSU Freshman Quarterback Colin Hurley was in a single car accident on campus that left him “unresponsive”. After the accident there was an overwhelming amount of support and well wishes sent toward Colin Hurley but, the fanbase was looking for updates on his health.
During his Press Conference on Wednesday, Brian Kelly gave an update on how Colin Hurley is doing and what his recovery process has been like.
Because of his age, we’ve left a lot of that up to the family. I’ve been there to see him on a number of occasions. Progress is real, he is back in Jacksonville and reports in talking to his dad yesterday were really positive. Again, this is another scenario where there’s a recovery process for him. I think everybody’s optimistic.”Brian Kelly
It’s great news to hear that Colin Hurley is recovering well and that he’s making great progress in his recovery. Given that Colin Hurley is back in Jacksonville it’s great to hear that he’s recovering near his family where he’ll have a constant support system. Given that Hurley is away from the team while recovering from the accident, he likely won’t be with the Tigers for the start of Spring Practices.
If Hurley isn’t with the team at the start of the Spring, the LSU Football team will only have two scholarship quarterbacks available in Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren. The Tigers just signed local University High Quarterback Emile Picarella as a Preferred Walk On, who will join the team.
