Red Wings’ Patrick Kane Faced Shocking Sexual Assault Charges But All Charges Were Dropped By Prosecutors And NHL
Patrick Kane, the star player of the Detroit Red Wings, has been enjoying a pretty smooth phase in his career over the last couple of years. But 2015 was a difficult year for Patrick Kane since he was accused of sexual assault by a woman he had met on that night itself. The months after he was accused proved to be a difficult time for the star player.
According to Buffalo News, back on 1st August 2015, Patrick Kane was accused of sexual assault by an unnamed woman. The woman revealed that she crossed paths with Patrick Kane when she was with a friend at a nightclub in Buffalo, New York.
Once they met, they headed to Patrick Kane’s luxurious mansion in Hamburg, Buffalo. According to Buffalo News, the unnamed woman alleged that Patrick Kane sexually assaulted her at his Hamburg home and she had to head to the hospital in the morning for an examination regarding it.
In 2015, Patrick Kane was one of the most popular NHL players after he won three Stanley Cup championship for his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks. He stayed with the team until 2023.
The sexual assault accusation against Patrick Kane was taken very seriously by the NHL and the management conducted its own investigation.
By March 2016, all charges against Patrick Kane were dropped by NHL since there was no evidence that proved the sexual assault charges. In November 2015, prosecutors cleared the NHL star of any charges due to no credible evidence.
New York’s Erie County district attorney Frank Sedita said, “The totality of the credible evidence – the proof – does not sufficiently substantiate the complainant’s allegation that she was raped by Patrick Kane and this so-called ‘case’ is rife with reasonable doubt.”
Patrick Kane continued to play for the Chicago Blackhawks and left the team in 2023 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. After spending a year with the New York Rangers, he became a free agent and later signed a one year deal with the Detroit Red Wings for $2.75 million.
