Former St. Louis Blues goalie Ville Husso is on the move.
The Detroit Red Wings have traded Husso to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for future considerations.
Husso, 30, was selected by the Blues with the 94th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. From there, the Helsinki, Finland native spent his first two NHL seasons as Blue in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
Husso broke out with the Blues in 2021-22 and put together the best season of his career thus far. In 40 games, he posted a 25-7-6 record, a 2.56 goals-against average, and a .919 save percentage. That following off-season, he was traded to the Red Wings in exchange for a third-round pick.
Husso never replicated his 2021-22 success with the Blues as a Red Wing. In 82 games over three seasons with Detroit, he had a 36-32-11 record, a .892 save percentage, and a 3.26 goals-against average. However, he had his biggest struggles with the Red Wings this season.
In nine games with Detroit this campaign, Husso had a 1-5-2 record, a .866 save percentage, and a 3.69 goals-against average. Due to this, he dropped on the Red Wings’ depth chart and spent a good amount of time in the AHL this season with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Husso will now look to get things back on track with this change of scenery from here.
