After an exciting event on the national stage this past weekend, the Detroit Red Wings return home on Tuesday night, hoping to end their losing skid when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Red Wings are coming off the fifth outdoor game in franchise history. In taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium, Detroit engaged in an exciting clash between regional rivals in front of the second-largest crowd in NHL history. However, the Wings ultimately came up short, losing to the Blue Jackets for the second game in a row, falling 5-3.
The Red Wings sit fourth in the Atlantic Division, holding the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Hurricanes arrive in Detroit after a three-game homestand, including taking on the two teams from Alberta this past weekend. Carolina lost to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday before facing the Calgary Flames on Sunday. The Canes have been struggling as of late, losing three of their past four games.
Carolina sits second in the Metropolitan Division, 12 points behind the first-place Washington Capitals.
This is the first of three meetings between the Wings and Canes in the next month.
