Penn State returned home to Rec Hall for its final regular season dual of the season.
The squad honored nine seniors on senior night. (not all were listed as seniors but were honored)
The blue and white got the victory 50-3 over American.
125 Pounds: No. 9 Luke Lilledahl vs Coen Bainey
After a tough matchup over the weekend against Ohio State. Lilledahl bounced back against Illinois and continued that momentum in this match. In the opening seconds, “Lightning Luke” secured his first takedown of the match. Lilledahl secured three takedowns in the opening period leading 9-2.
The pressure continued throughout the entire match. Lilledahl secured the 20-3 tech fall. Penn State led, 5-0.
133 Pounds: Kyison Garcia vs Raymond Lopez
After being scratched over the weekend for Braeden Davis, Garcia started on his toes. Lopez matched that energy and neither wrestler got anything done in the opening period. Lopez got on the scoreboard first with an escape point to open the second.
Garcia secured the takedown to answer the escape. Lopez got the takedown to end the second period and take the lead, 5-3.
It was a back-and-forth match with Lopez getting the victory, 9-7, and cutting the Nittany Lions lead to 5-3.
141 Pounds: No. 1 Beau Bartlett vs Elijah White
The newly No. 1 ranked wrestler at 141 came out ready to go, sprinting from the tunnel to the mat and securing two takedowns in 15 seconds, three takedowns in the opening minute.
Bartlett secured the 21-5 tech fall early in the second period. Penn State led, 10-3.
149 Pounds: No. 2 Shayne Van Ness vs Gage Owen
This match continued the trends that the previous matches had. Penn State in complete control. Van Ness up 10-1 after the first period. He continued to be in control of the entire match.
Van Ness got the victory but a 16-1 tech fall. The blue and white led 15-3.
157 Pounds: No. 1 Tyler Kasak vs Jack Nies
After missing the last couple of matches Kasak opened this one with a ton of energy. He opened the match with a takedown. Then he finished the first period with a pin.
Kasak extended Penn State’s lead to 21-3.
165 Pounds: No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink vs Kaden Milheim
In the first five seconds, Mesenbrink secured a takedown. It was takedown after takedown for Mesenbrink.
Mesenbrink secured the tech fall and extended the blue and white’s lead to 26-3.
174 Pounds: No. 2 Levi Haines vs Caleb Campos
Haines took down Campos but Campos made it difficult for him to do much as he was not getting up off the mat. Haines got the second-period pin.
Penn State led 32-3.
184 Pounds: No. 1 Carter Starocci vs Lucas White
Starocci’s last time walking out to the Mike Myers music, he hunted down his opponent White and got the pin in the first period.
Penn State led 38-3.
