Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Makes Major Pitching Announcement
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford will open up the 2025 Major League Baseball season on the injured list with a knee problem.
The news is according to Boston’s manager, Alex Cora, who announced it while on MLB Newtork.
As the season approaches, the Red Sox are already hampered by injuries. There is also uncertainty about starter Brayan Bello’s readiness to open the season.
Crawford held a 4.36 ERA last season and punched out 175 batters. He was incredibly durable for the Red Sox in 2024, starting 33 games and pitching 183.2 innings.
However, the injury does open up a spot in the rotation, at least for the beginning of the season. Quinn Priester and Cooper Criswell are two options to keep an eye on.
While Crawford led all pitchers in home runs surrendered last year, he had very good control, walking just 2.5 batters/ nine innings.
The injury news just shows that the Red Sox will need to get good production out of their topline starters like Garrett Crochet, Tanner Houck, and Walker Buehler. Considering the additions Boston has made at the pitcher position, they won’t have to rely on Crawford or Bello as much as they did a season ago.
