this was made clear with the misinterpretation of a photo that was thought to be about Alex Bregman and his new contract.
fter the Red Sox signed Alex
Bregman, John Henry’s wife, Linda
Pizzuti-Henry, posted a photo of the Fenway Sports Group owner lighting up a cigar while lounging by his fireplace. Red Sox Nation has been buzzing with different interpretations of the photo, but Alex Cora took the time to clear things up.
Cora can’t discuss the deal itself until the team’s agreement with the former Astros star is official. So, Cora spoke in general terms about Bregman after Thursday’s spring training. He also offered a humorous explanation for a viral Instagram post involving principal owner John Henry.
‘Yeah, he was upset because Mo Salah wasn’t awarded a penalty in the 95th minute yesterday. It should have been a penalty. Obviously, Everton took the ball the other way, scored, and tied the game.
That’s why he was smoking that cigar!
It seems that Bregman’s three-year deal wasn’t the only reason for the cigar celebration. Instead, it was a soccer match between Liverpool FC and Everton FC, which didn’t have much to celebrate given the circumstances of the event.
Cora, who became friends with Bregman while serving as Houston’s bench coach in 2017, hasn’t been shy about his admiration for the two-time All-Star, publicly longing for Bregman since the Winter Meetings in December and finally landing him a couple of weeks later.
