Florida State announces some very important football news that fans will want to know about despite 2024 finish
Florida State football has a long history, but recent years have been a mix of struggles and a return to success. They have had some success, but ultimately have not been able to really sustain the success we are used to seeing from such a historic program.
In 2018, Willie Taggart became head coach after Jimbo Fisher left for Texas A&M. Taggart’s time was tough, with FSU finishing 5–7 in his first season and starting 4–5 in 2019. He was fired before the end of 2019 due to poor performance, leaving the program in need of rebuilding.
In 2020, FSU hired Mike Norvell from Memphis. His first season was challenging, with the team going 3–6 in a COVID-shortened year. The 2021 season improved slightly to 5–7, but fans were still waiting for a turnaround. The 2022 season marked a big step forward. FSU finished 10–3, its best record since 2016, and beat Oklahomain the Cheez-It Bowl. This gave fans hope that Norvell was on the right track.
The 2023 season was even better. FSU went 13–0 in the regular season and won the ACC Championship, led by quarterback Jordan Travis. However, despite their perfect record, FSU was controversially left out of the College Football Playoff, and the team lost to Georgia in the Orange Bowl, finishing 13–1.
In 2024 they started the season 1–8 and struggling with injuries and inconsistent play. FSU football is working to regain its status as a top program, but it won’t be easy at all. With the way last season went, it’s hard to find a way to see this team getting back to double-digit wins. But, who knows, they are in the ACC.
Either way, there are going to be some very important dates fans want to know about, despite having a bad 2024 season. The Seminoles released some of those dates on Monday.
