The New York Islanders have bolstered their roster by signing top NCAA free agent Gleb Veremyev to a two-year, entry-level contract beginning in the 2025-26 season.

    Player Profile

Veremyev, a 21-year-old center from Monroe Township, New Jersey, stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 205 pounds.  He recently completed his junior year at Colorado College, where he tallied nine goals and eight assists over 37 games in the 2024-25 season.  Over his three-year collegiate career, Veremyev accumulated 52 points (26 goals, 26 assists) in 88 games.

    Pre-Collegiate Experience

Prior to joining Colorado College, Veremyev played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Lincoln Stars, recording 21 goals and 20 assists over 100 games.  His performance in the USHL showcased his potential and paved the way for his collegiate career.

    Playing Style and Skills

Known for his size and faceoff proficiency, Veremyev brings a physical presence to the ice.  His ability to leverage his stature effectively makes him a valuable asset in both offensive and defensive situations.

    Contract Details

While specific financial terms were not disclosed, Veremyev’s two-year, entry-level contract aligns with standard agreements for undrafted free agents entering the NHL.

    Implications for the Islanders

The acquisition of Veremyev reflects the Islanders’ commitment to infusing young talent into their roster. His blend of size, skill, and experience is expected to enhance the team’s depth at the center position. Given his collegiate and USHL background, Veremyev may start with the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, to further develop his professional game before transitioning to the NHL.

This strategic signing underscores the Islanders’ proactive approach in securing promising talent to maintain competitiveness in the seasons ahead.
