LSU men’s basketball redshirt freshman forward Corey Chest Jr., a New Orleans native, has entered the transfer portal. Chest, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound athlete, redshirted the 2023-24 season, participating in practices and contributing significantly to the scout team.
Prior to his time at LSU, Chest played for Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, during the 2022-23 season. There, he was part of a team that clinched the Geico National High School Tournament title, finishing with a 27-1 record and earning the No. 1 spot in the final SB Live/Sports Illustrated boys basketball poll. Throughout the national championship event, Chest averaged 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Before transferring to Link Academy, Chest made a name for himself at McMain High School in New Orleans. As a junior, he averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, leading McMain to consecutive Class 4A title game appearances in 2021 and 2022. His performance earned him First Team All-Louisiana honors.
Chest was a highly regarded recruit, ranked No. 75 by 247Sports and No. 89 in their national composite rankings. He was also listed as the No. 16 power forward and the No. 2 player in Missouri by 247Sports. His commitment to LSU in August 2022 was seen as a significant win for the Tigers, showcasing the coaching staff’s ability to secure top local talent despite challenging circumstances.
As Chest explores opportunities with other programs, his departure marks a notable change for LSU basketball, which had anticipated his contributions in the upcoming seasons.
