4-star recruit’s telling reaction after receiving Notre Dame football offer
The Fighting Irish have been on top of their recruitment ahead of the 2025 season but planning for the future has also been paramaount – recently offering scholarship terms to a highly sought-after offensive tackle
Four-star recruit Cameron Wagner was left grinning from ear to ear after receiving an offer from Notre Dame for its 2027 class.
The promising 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive lineman has been highly sought-after following an impressive 2024 campaign with St. Joseph-Ogden High School (IL), having already received offers from eight other programs including CFP champions Ohio State, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the IowaHawkeyes.
The youngster also competes in track and field, as well as wrestling, and posted strong freshman throws numbers of a 44-6.25 shot put rep and a 130-10 discus mark, as per Athletic.net. However, it appears football is where his heart is and Wagner is now looking ahead to where he will be spending his future at the collegiate level.
Recently, he visited South Bend for a tour of the campus and was made an offer by offensive line coach Joe Rudolph face-to-face. Judging by Wagner’s reaction to the news, it’s fair to say that Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman have a fair chance of landing his services ahead of other rival programs.
“I just smiled real big,” he said to 247Sports when recalling the moment coach Rudolph informed him of the offer during last week’s visit. “He went straight back to the conversation. I was excited. People know that Notre Dame is known for all of its o-linemen and it’s just that A+ program.”
