South Carolina volleyball has a new coach. On Monday, USC’s Board of Trustees approved a contract for Sarah Rumely Noble to become the program’s 14th head coach. She replaces outgoing coach Tom Mendoza, who took the same position at Marquette earlier this month.
As the new leader of the Gamecock volleyball program, Rumely Noble will earn a base salary of $260,000 in years one and two, $275,000 in years three and four, and $285,000 in year five.
Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati said that bringing on the new coach marks “an exciting day” for USC. He also referenced Rumely Noble’s coaching success and SEC experience as major factors in the school’s nationwide search. While he has presided over contract negotiations during his early days at South Carolina, this was Donati’s first coaching hire for the garnet and black.
Rumely Noble comes to Columbia from Appalachian State. She led the Mountaineers for three seasons and helped guide ASU to its first Sun Belt East Division championship and first appearance in the NIVC Tournament since 2018. While in Boone, she also helped guide her team to two AVCA Team Academic Awards in three seasons.
Appalachian State produced two Sun Belt Freshman of the Year award winners and six all-conference performers under Rumely Noble’s leadership.

Before coaching at App State, Rumely Noble was an assistant for five years at LSU and served as the team’s associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to her time in Baton Rouge, she also worked at Arkansas, Wake Forest, and North Texas.
Rumely Noble has experience coaching setters, orchestrating defenses, leading offenses, running recruiting departments, and leading player development.
