Mizzou LB reportedly plans to re-enter transfer portal after joining program in December
Missouri linebacker Mikai Gbayor joined the Tigers from the transfer portal in December after a pair of seasons at Nebraska.
But it looks as if his time with the program has come to an end after just shy of 4 months. Gbayor plans to re-enter the portal when it opens back up on Wednesday, according to 247Sports’ Jarod Hamilton.
Gbayor was a promising signing from the portal. The Irvington, N.J. product signed with the Cornhuskers out of the class of 2021, redshirting his freshman season and not seeing action in 2022.
He emerged as a starter for the Huskers in 2023 and 2024, totaling 73 tackles and 9 tackles for a loss in those 2 seasons combined. In 2024, he posted 49 stops and 6 TFLs.
After graduating from Nebraska, Gbayor entered the transfer portal with 1 final season of eligibility remaining, ultimately opting to finish his career in the SEC by signing with Mizzou in December. After going through spring practice, though, it looks like he has had a change of heart.
Gbayor is the second Mizzou player of the day who is headed for the portal, joining cornerback Ja’Marion Wayne, a 3-year member of the program.
That follows an announcement on Wednesday from defensive end Jakai Lang, who intends to enter the portal after 2 seasons with the program.
