Husan Longstreet enters USC football practices carrying immense expectations. That comes with the territory of being a five-star talent on campus.
The prized local signing for the 2025 class is showing to be as good as advertised early. Longstreet is winning over head coach Lincoln Riley and USC.
Riley shared via Ryan Kartje of the Los Angeles Times what he likes so far out of the massive addition from Inland Empire powerhouse Centennial High in Corona.
I can see Husan’s talent stands out on the field. He’s picked up the offense quickly. He’s taken advantage of coming here early,” Riley shared.
Longstreet opted to end his senior year around December and immediately enroll at USC. Going that route helped fill needed QB depth for the Trojans’ spring practices. However, Riley’s words doesn’t indicate the true freshman is the lock to win QB1 duties.
Riley praised another newcomer to the Trojans: Transfer Sam Huard. The former Washington, Cal Poly and Utah passer has excelled in “situational football” as described by Riley. Huard, like Longstreet, is another past five-star. Except the multiple transfer QB has extensive collegiate experience coming to USC.
But Jayden Maiava is the current projected starter for the 2025 season. Maiava took over the starting quarterback reins late from Miller Moss. The UNLV transfer saw action in seven games for the 2024 Trojans.
He went on to throw 11 touchdowns with only six interceptions and racked up 1,201 yards. But he tossed three touchdowns or more in three of his four starts. That includes the four he fired against Texas A&M to win the Las Vegas Bowl.
