Most rookies crack under pressure, but for former Missouri Tigers kicker Harrison Mevis, pressure just makes diamonds.
Joining the ranks of the Birmingham Stallions this season, Mevis has shown the UFL what an SEC kicker can bring to the table. Mevis has connected on 8-of-8 field goals through the team’s first four games, including a season long of 53 yards.

Many fans took to social media to praise the 23-year-old kicker for his perfect start, with some suggesting he deserves a chance at the next level.
“Should be in the NFL,” one user wrote.
“This guy should definitely get an NFL tryout after the season,” another added.
Dubbed the “Thiccer Kicker” by Mizzou fans for his larger stature, the 5-foot-11, 243-pound Mevis signed with the Stallions in December after being waived by the Carolina Panthers, the team he signed with as a free agent after going un-drafted last April.
During his tenure at Mizzou, Mevis was a starter under head coach Eli Drinkwitz for four years, hitting 86-of-103 career field goals (83.5%) in the process.
The Thiccer Kicker was immortalized by Mizzou fans in September 2023 when he drilled a 61-yard walk-off field goal to give the unranked Tigers a 30-27 upset-victory against then-No. 15 ranked Kansas State.
Mevis’ 61-yard kick set a new SEC record as the longest in conference history, and led him to be tabbed on the Lou Groza Award Watch List, given to the top kicker in college football each season. He also took home second-team All-SEC honors for his 2023 campaign, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
Birmingham (3-1) will next host the Memphis Showboats (0-4) in a Week 5 matchup which kicks off this Friday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET. The Stallions have six games remaining in the regular season for Mevis to continue to showcase his skills.
With his resume growing with each year, it may not be a surprise to one day see Mevis take the field in the NFL.
