- Michigan football running back Kalel Mullings was drafted at No. 188 by the Tennessee Titans.
- Mullings, who played LB before moving to RB for the Wolverines, is the sixth U-M player drafted.
Kalel Mullings was done little favor by the previous coaching regime in Ann Arbor, switching him from linebacker to running back, back to linebacker and then finally at the end of his career to running back.
Still, the Michigan football standout’s talent was so great, his work ethic so diligent, he was able to work his way all the way to what happened on April 26: Mullings was drafted No. 12 in the 6th round, No. 188 overall by the Indianapolis Colts.
Mullings, who stands 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, was a late bloomer in Ann Arbor, first cracking the rotation on special teams as a freshman and then as a backup linebacker year two. By his junior season, he was still primarily a defender, but the team had worked him in on goal-line packages and fourth-and-short situations: he had 14 carries for 31 yards and three touchdowns.
Even still, he was primarily a defender at the time, playing 10 games at linebacker and finishing with 12 tackles.
But by 2023, he finally was full time in the backfield and proved to be a useful third option behind start Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, rushing 36 times for 222 yards with one touchdown. But it was this senior year in 2024 that’s the reason he was drafted on Saturday.
