Andrej Stojakovic has found his next home, which won’t be in Lexington with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Kentucky target and former Cal Golden Bear sharpshooter has committed to Illinois, per ESPN’s Jeff Borzello and Jonathan Givony
“I think the main reasons were pretty clear to my inner circle as a basketball fit,” Stojakovic said.“Coach (Brad) Underwood has been very aggressive recruiting me from the start and constantly reiterating how much I’m wanted and needed as a basketball player there. They really believe I’m the missing piece to what they think is a national championship team.”
Stojakovic was contacted by Wildcat head coach Mark Pope out of the transfer portal as he looked to add to Kentucky’s perimeter. This was prior to Denzel Aberdeen’s commitment, as the former Florida Gator likely will fill a similar role in Lexington that the Illini forward would have.
The 6’7″ wing originally started his career as a top-20 recruit at Stanford before transferring to Cal as a Sophomore, where he had a breakout campaign. Stojakovic averaged 17.9 points and 4.7 rebounds with the Golden Bears last year.
If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because he is the son of NBA legend Peja Stojakovic, a three-time All-Star and former Greek League MVP. The younger Stojakovic will now head to Champaign for his Junior season.
