Penn State Football Assistant Steps Downs
After just one season, Keith Bruno has stepped down from his role as the assistant special teams coach at Penn State, according to FootballScoop.com.
Bruno, who previously spent time at Temple and served three years with Rutgers, joined James Franklin staff in January 2024 as a special teams analyst, working with coordinators like Justin Lustig, who is now in his second season with the program.
Despite fully immersing himself in the program, he has decided to step away to pursue other opportunities, Football Scope revealed
The program is hoping to build on its success from last season, when Penn State won 13 games last season and earned a berth in the College Football Playoffs. The Nittany Lions are returning a number of key players, including many who contributed on special teams throughout the season.
Placekicker Ryan Barker and punter Gabe Nwosu are among the players returning this season.
Quarterback Drew Allar, who will enter the season as a potential breakout star, will also be coming back.
The Nittany Lions had several players selected in the 2025 draft, notably linebacker Abdul Carter, who was taken No. 3 overall to the New York Giants.
Penn State recently completed spring practice. The program made several offseason hires, including former quarterback Trace McSorley as assistant quarterbacks coach and Eric Sachse to work with kickers.
The program has yet to have officially replace Bruno, according to On3.com, but is expected to move swiftly to find a replacement.
Penn State opens the 2025 season at home on Aug. 30 against Nevada.
