Head coach Mark Pope is nearing the end of his first roster build in Lexington, focusing on adding developmental pieces and under-the-radar contributors. Pope is taking a global approach, seeking players who can grow within the system or bring experience and leadership for a final collegiate run. — As the offseason progresses, new Kentucky head coach Mark Pope is putting the final touches on his inaugural roster in Lexington. With a clear vision and a calculated approach, Pope is focusing on adding developmental prospects and overlooked contributors who can grow within his system or offer veteran leadership for one last collegiate campaign.

In a departure from traditional one-and-done recruiting, Pope is casting a wide net—both domestically and internationally—to find talent that fits his culture-first philosophy. Sources close to the program say he’s prioritizing high-IQ players with strong fundamentals and a willingness to embrace long-term development.

“We’re looking for guys who want to be part of something bigger than themselves,” Pope said in a recent interview. “Whether it’s a young player with upside or an experienced athlete looking for a final opportunity to lead, we want players who are hungry, coachable, and committed.”

The roster so far reflects that approach, blending under-the-radar high school talent with international standouts and veteran transfers. Pope’s strategy marks a shift from Kentucky’s recent blueprint and suggests a more sustainable, system-based model moving forward.

As the final pieces fall into place, the Big Blue Nation awaits a new era under Mark Pope—one that balances promise with purpose, and talent with team-first values.
