Nebraska Coach Matt Rhule Calls Out Recruiters Who Can’t Coach
Nebraska Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule understands that recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. You can’t win without acquiring talent.
But if you can’t coach that talent up, well, that’s a problem.
“There’s a lot of schools that have really great recruiters, but those guys can’t coach,” Rhule said after practice last month. “A lot of schools have good coaches. We’re trying to find the middle.”
Rhule pointed to assistants such as wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. as an example of a great recruiter who makes players better once they arrive in Lincoln.
He can really teach and instruct, and just carry that on the line down all the coaches,” Rhule said.
Why does Nebraska coach Matt Rhule wants recruits to watch practice on their visits?
When it comes to recruiting, Rhule wants to get potential Huskers to practice. That’s the true gauge for what they’ll experience if they decide to come to Nebraska.
“Everybody is nice on junior day, everybody is nice on official visits,” he said. “Come see what people are like at practice. I hope they’ll come away with a couple things. Number one, you see a bunch of coaches who demand but don’t demean. We’re going to coach hard.
