Magic Johnson Honestly Reacts To His Hometown Team Michigan State Spartans’ Victory Over Iowa Hawkeyes
NBA legend Magic Johnson shared a congratulatory message for the Michigan State basketball team as they delivered yet another thrilling comeback, this time on the road against Iowa. They have secured the place as the outright Big Ten regular-season champion. The No. 7 Spartans stormed back from a 14-point deficit in the second half to claim a 91-84 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday night.

NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson has showered praise for the Michigan State basketball team in a congratulatory social media post. Following the game, the Los Angeles Lakers legend cheered for his hometown team in a heartfelt post on X. “Congratulations to my Michigan State Spartans on their 91-84 victory over Iowa! With this win they are the regular season Big Ten Champions! Go Green, Go White! @MSU_Basketball,” Johnson wrote.

Coach Tom Izzo’s squad found another gear in the second half, launching a dominant 33-6 run to flip the game on its head. The win secured Izzo’s fifth outright Big Ten title and first since 2018, a significant milestone in his Hall of Fame career.

Jase Richardson scored an impressive 22 points. “He’s just so calm, he doesn’t get rattled,” Izzo said. “I love the way he handles himself out there. When we weren’t very good early, he kept us in the game. I’m glad he’s on our team.”

Jaden Akins fueled the second-half rally, scoring 13 of his 15 points after halftime. Jaxon Kohler also stepped up with 15 points and six rebounds, while Jeremy Fears Jr. added 15 points. Tre Holloman rounded out the balanced effort with 11 points.

For Iowa (15-15, 6-13 Big Ten), Josh Dix led the way with 18 points, while Payton Sandfort and Seydou Traore each contributed 15. The Hawkeyes, who had won five of their last six matchups against Michigan State, now face a must-win scenario against Nebraska on Sunday to secure a spot in the expanded 15-team Big Ten Tournament.
