Phillies Make Major Zack Wheeler Announcement Ahead of Cubs Series
With the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle of losing nine of their last ten games, they got a major update on the return of one of their best players.
In a post from the Phillies’ account on Twitter/X, they have reinstated starting pitcher Zack Wheeler from the paternity list and placed him on the active roster. The corresponding move to open that roster spot was to send down right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The move for the Phillies comes amid the birth of Wheeler’s fourth child, and after he missed his previously scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays. Wheeler is returning at a key time, as the Phillies are reeling following a sweep against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
So far in 2025, Wheeler has been his dominant self. He has a 2.96 ERA, 6 wins, and 2 losses, with both losses coming against the Atlanta Braves. Wheeler has 94 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched, and has allowed just 18 walks and 9 home runs in that span.
With Wheeler back on the 26-man roster, he’s also slated ot start the first game of a pivotal series against the Chicago Cubs, who are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now.
It’s a tall task in Wheeler’s first start back from the paternity list, but his pitching prowess since coming to Philadelphia has more than earned him the full trust of the organization and Rob Thomson.
Wheeler will look to help the Phillies bounce back from a rough stretch, while also bouncing back himself from a tough outing against the Braves, where he allowed six earned runs in 5.1 innings.
