Qualifying for the Olympics in one sport is hard enough, but a rare breed of athletes have been known to pursue two sports at the elite level. One such athlete is Colorado-based triathlete and cyclist Taylor Knibb. The 26-year-old returning Olympian became the first American athlete to qualify in two sports for the Paris 2024 Olympics when she won the 2024 USA Cycling Time Trial National Championships in May. ATLANTA — The University of Tennessee is one of 30 NCAA Power Five programs, including only four from the Southeastern Conference, to earn academic recognition from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The Lady Vols earned “Special Mention” status for their collective 3.301 grade point average as part of the WBCA’s Academic Team Honor Roll released this week. Earlier this summer, the UT women placed nine members of their 15-player 2023-24 roster on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Gabby Thomas beat Sha’Carri Richardson in the highly anticipated 200-meter final of the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. Thomas came in first with a time of 21.81 seconds. Richardson missed qualifying for the 200 meters by fractions of a second but will still compete in the 100. Brittany Brown, who set a personal best, and McKenzie Long will also run the 200 in Paris. Long, whose mother died this year, choked up after she qualified for the race.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is a pioneer, one who sprints and leaps into new territory for the 400 metre hurdles. Breaking records and winning medals are commonplace for the 24-year-old American athlete who has her sights set on glory once again in Paris. Argentina coach Javier Mascherano has described the chaotic ending to his team’s 2-1 loss to Morocco in the men’s Olympic football tournament as a “disgrace” and “a circus”. Crowd trouble forced the first football match of Paris 2024 to be suspended for nearly two hours, with the game eventually completed in an empty stadium. The future of the Kim Caldwell era of Lady Vols basketball has begun with the commitment of the Pauldo twins, who are both ranked in the top 50 of the 2025 class. Mya and Mia Pauldo announced their commitment to Tennessee last week, marking the first high school commitments for Caldwell since she was hired in April. Caldwell also brought in five transfers for the 2024-25 season. The Pauldo twins are 5-foot-5 point guards who play at Morris Catholic High School in New Jersey.
