Qualifying for the Olympics in one sport is hard enough, but a rare breed of athletes have been known to pursue two sports at the elite level. One such athlete is Colorado-based triathlete and cyclist Taylor Knibb. ATLANTA — The University of Tennessee is one of 30 NCAA Power Five programs, including only four from the Southeastern Conference, to earn academic recognition from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The Lady Vols earned “Special Mention” status for their collective 3.301 grade point average as part of the WBCA’s Academic Team Honor Roll released this week. Gabby Thomas beat Sha’Carri Richardson in the highly anticipated 200-meter final of the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. Thomas came in first with a time of 21.81 seconds. Richardson missed qualifying for the 200 meters by fractions of a second but will still compete in the 100. Brittany Brown, who set a personal best, and McKenzie Long will also run the 200 in Paris. Long, whose mother died this year, choked up after she qualified for the race.

Argentina coach Javier Mascherano has described the chaotic ending to his team’s 2-1 loss to Morocco in the men’s Olympic football tournament as a “disgrace” and “a circus”.
